Schenectady County Forest Preserve

Schenectady County Forest Preserve is a 102 acre preserve run by the county. It has a 1.5 mile loop (blue) and a couple of shorter trails. In 2011 a new 1.3 mile loop (green) into the Duanesburg Forest was added to the far end of the blue trail as an Eagle Scout project. A metal sign indicating the project marks the start of the green trail. Trails are generally well defined and marked with paint blazes.

The area was a "Great Lot" in the 18th Century and there is an old foundation and cemetary along with several signs detailing the history of the area. There is a man-made pond and the "red" trail skirts it along the berm of the dam. The far end was washed out and repaired by beavers and the next short section before the red trail leaves the pond has become overgrown.
