This interesting looking bush is a Winged Euonymus, a type of burning bush. Besides the berries that resemble Christmas lights it has little ridges along the stem which gives it the "winged" name. This was spotted along side the Indian Kill where it had escaped to from someone's garden.
Canadian/Gray Jay. These birds lie in wait of hikers and get handouts of trailmix etc. They seemed to be following us up the trail knowing they would be fed during a rest break if they hung out with us. One, even perched on someone's knapsack where there was part of a sandwich observable to the jay. Fun and distraction while going up the steep trail to Mt. Jackson.

This interesting fungus may be Clavaria zollingeri, a purple Coral mushroom. It was hanging out with a wintergreen plant on the trail in the Pittstown State Forest.

This snapping turtle had just crossed Route 111 on its way up Otter Creek. In early April it was too early for egg laying so it was probably looking for new territory.
